Get My Preparer Tax Preparer Marketplace
Effective Date: August 16, 2026
Get My Preparer, LLC (“Get My Preparer,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates an online marketplace that helps taxpayers identify and connect with independent tax return preparers, tax professionals, and tax preparation businesses (collectively, “Preparers”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect information through our website, forms, accounts, communications, and related services (the “Platform”).
Get My Preparer does not prepare tax returns, provide tax, legal, accounting, or financial advice, act as an electronic return originator, or represent taxpayers before the IRS or any state tax authority. Preparers are independent businesses or professionals and are responsible for their own privacy and data-security practices after a taxpayer chooses to communicate or engage with them.
1. Information We Collect
A. Information From Taxpayers
We may collect information that a taxpayer voluntarily provides to request a match, create an account, communicate with us, select a Preparer, submit a review, or use another Platform feature, including:
- name, email address, and phone number;
- general location or service area;
- preferred language and preferred contact method;
- remote or in-person service preference;
- general filing category, such as individual, self-employed, business, prior-year, amended-return, or tax-notice assistance;
- a high-level description of tax preparation needs, timing, and service preferences;
- Preparer selections, match responses, scheduling preferences, and communications with us;
- reviews, ratings, complaints, and customer-support records; and
- other information the taxpayer chooses to provide.
We may use portions of the submitted information to create a limited Match Preview for potentially eligible Preparers. A Match Preview does not include the taxpayer's direct contact information, exact street address, tax documents, or Sensitive Tax Information.
B. Sensitive Tax Information
“Sensitive Tax Information” includes Social Security numbers, taxpayer identification numbers, full or partial tax returns, W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, dependent information, income documents, refund information, bank information, driver license images, and detailed tax facts provided for tax-return preparation.
The general Platform intake is not designed to collect Sensitive Tax Information. If we later offer a clearly identified secure upload, detailed tax-intake, second-review, or document-routing feature, we will provide additional notice and obtain any separate consent required before collecting, using, or disclosing that information. Any consent required under Internal Revenue Code Section 7216, related regulations, or other applicable law will be presented separately when required; this Privacy Policy does not replace that consent.
C. Information From Preparers
We may collect information from Preparers, including:
- name, business name, contact information, business address, and physical business location;
- service areas, availability, languages, service categories, pricing information, and profile content;
- PTIN, EFIN or ERO information, credentials, licenses, registrations, permits, claimed exemptions, bonds, and insurance information;
- profile photos, logos, advertisements, sponsored-placement selections, reviews, and responses;
- account, billing, payment-confirmation, credit-package purchase, credit-balance, credit-usage, promotional-credit, adjustment, expiration, refund, chargeback, and transaction information; and
- communications, complaints, support records, verification records, and participation history.
D. Automatically Collected Information
When a person uses the Platform, we and our service providers may automatically collect technical and usage information, such as IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, links clicked, session activity, date and time of access, cookie or device identifiers, and approximate location derived from IP address.
E. Payment Information
Payments for prepaid credit packages and other Platform services may be processed by Stripe or another third-party payment processor. The payment processor may store payment credentials and provide us with limited transaction, payment-method, payment-status, refund, chargeback, and billing information. We may maintain records of credit-package purchases, credit balances, promotional credits, credit usage, adjustments, and expirations. We do not necessarily receive or store full payment-card or bank-account numbers.
2. How the Matching Process Works
- A taxpayer submits limited marketplace information through the Platform.
- The Platform may create a Match Preview containing high-level service-request information and make it available to Preparers who appear potentially eligible based on the taxpayer's stated needs and the Preparer's profile, service area, credential information, and other matching criteria.
- One or more Preparers may express interest in the Match Preview. Preparers are prohibited from attempting to identify or contact the taxpayer from Match Preview information.
- The Platform may display interested or matched Preparers to the taxpayer. The taxpayer decides whether to select or accept one or more Preparers.
- Only after the taxpayer affirmatively selects or accepts a Preparer may the Platform release the taxpayer's direct contact information to that Preparer and permit direct request-related communication. We refer to this as an “Unlocked Match.”
The Platform may vary or test the order, design, and presentation of the matching flow. Under the standard matching flow, the Platform does not disclose a taxpayer's direct contact information to a Preparer before the taxpayer affirmatively selects or accepts that specifically identified Preparer. If we offer a different routing method, we will clearly disclose it and obtain the taxpayer's affirmative authorization before disclosure.
3. How We Use Information
We may use information to:
- operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Platform;
- create Match Previews and identify potentially eligible Preparers;
- display Preparer profiles, facilitate Preparer interest, obtain taxpayer selection, and complete Unlocked Matches;
- communicate about requests, matches, accounts, billing, service updates, complaints, security matters, and policy changes;
- verify or review Preparer profile, credential, license, registration, location, and participation information;
- process prepaid credit-package purchases, maintain credit balances, deduct credits for Unlocked Matches or other selected services, apply promotional credits and adjustments, process refunds where applicable, and resolve billing disputes;
- provide customer support and investigate complaints or suspected misuse;
- prevent fraud, unauthorized access, scraping, circumvention, spam, and other Platform abuse;
- measure Platform usage, performance, marketing, and matching effectiveness;
- enforce our agreements and policies and protect the rights, safety, and property of users, Preparers, the Platform, and others;
- comply with legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, and recordkeeping obligations; and
- send marketing communications where permitted and where any required consent has been obtained.
4. How We Disclose Information
A. Match Previews and Unlocked Matches
We may disclose a limited Match Preview to potentially eligible Preparers so they can decide whether to express interest. Match Previews do not include the taxpayer's direct contact information, exact street address, tax documents, or Sensitive Tax Information. After the taxpayer affirmatively selects or accepts a Preparer, we may disclose the taxpayer's submitted name, contact information, service-request information, and relevant preferences to that Preparer at the taxpayer's direction so the parties can communicate about the request.
A taxpayer may select or accept more than one Preparer. The Platform will disclose direct contact information only to the Preparer or Preparers identified to and affirmatively selected or accepted by the taxpayer, unless a different sharing method is clearly disclosed and affirmatively authorized before submission.
B. Service Providers
We may disclose information to vendors and service providers that help us operate the Platform, including hosting, cloud, security, identity-verification, payment-processing, analytics, communications, customer-support, fraud-prevention, and professional-advisory providers. We require service providers by contract to protect information, use it only for the services they provide to us or another permitted purpose, and comply with applicable privacy and security requirements, subject to exceptions permitted by law.
C. Legal, Safety, and Business Transactions
We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, legal process, court order, subpoena, regulatory request, or law-enforcement request; enforce our agreements; investigate complaints, fraud, or security incidents; protect rights, safety, and property; or complete a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, transfer of the Platform, or sale of assets.
D. Aggregated and De-Identified Information
We may use and disclose aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified information that does not reasonably identify a person, including for analytics, reporting, research, marketing, and business planning. We will not attempt to re-identify information that applicable law requires us to maintain as de-identified.
5. Communications
We may send transactional or request-related communications about an intake request, match status, account, security issue, complaint, billing matter, or policy update. After an Unlocked Match, the selected or accepted Preparer may contact the taxpayer regarding the request as authorized in the intake flow and permitted by law.
Marketing communications from Get My Preparer are separate from request-related communications and will be sent only as permitted by law. A recipient may opt out of marketing emails using the unsubscribe link and may opt out of Platform text messages by replying STOP. Opting out of communications from Get My Preparer does not automatically opt a person out of communications from a Preparer with whom the person separately communicates or engages.
6. Cookies, Analytics, and Advertising Technologies
We may use cookies, pixels, software development kits, analytics tools, and similar technologies to operate the Platform, remember preferences, maintain security, understand usage, measure marketing, and provide or evaluate advertising. Depending on the technologies used and applicable law, certain disclosures of online identifiers or activity may be treated as a sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or profiling. Where required, we will provide a cookie preference tool, privacy-choices page, “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link, Global Privacy Control recognition, or another legally required opt-out mechanism.
Browser Signals and Cross-Site Tracking. Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (“DNT”) setting. Because there is no uniform standard for DNT signals, the Platform does not currently respond to DNT signals. We will recognize legally required universal opt-out preference signals, such as Global Privacy Control, where applicable. Third-party analytics, advertising, or similar service providers may collect information about a user's online activities over time and across different websites or online services, depending on the technologies used.
7. Sale, Sharing, and Marketplace Disclosures
Get My Preparer does not sell Sensitive Tax Information. After a taxpayer affirmatively selects or accepts a specifically identified Preparer, the Platform may disclose the taxpayer's contact information, service-request information, and relevant preferences to that Preparer at the taxpayer's direction to complete the requested connection. The Platform may sell prepaid credit packages to Preparers. Credits may be redeemed for Unlocked Matches, marketplace services, advertising, sponsored placement, or other services identified on the Platform. The applicable credit cost will be displayed before a Preparer commits to the transaction. Separate advertising-technology practices may be treated as a sale, sharing, or targeted advertising under some state laws. Eligible users may exercise applicable opt-out rights through the privacy choices made available on the Platform.
A privacy choice that prevents disclosure of information necessary to complete a requested connection may prevent us from completing that match. We will not discriminate against a user for exercising a privacy right, except as permitted by law when information is reasonably necessary to provide the requested service.
8. Data Retention
Closing or terminating an account ends access to the account and may stop future matching and other account activity, but it does not automatically delete all personal information associated with the account. A person who also wants personal information deleted must clearly request deletion under Section 10. A single request may ask for both account closure and deletion, and we will process both requests. We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the Platform, complete requested matches, administer accounts, process billing, maintain records of credit purchases, balances, redemptions, adjustments, expirations, refunds, chargebacks, and billing disputes, maintain consent and suppression records, investigate complaints, prevent fraud, comply with legal and accounting obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Retention periods vary based on the type of information, account status, legal requirements, operational needs, and security considerations. After account closure or in response to a deletion request, we may retain limited records of deletion requests, opt-outs, consent, billing, credit transactions, fraud, complaints, security matters, disputes, and legal or accounting matters where reasonably necessary, permitted, or required by law.
9. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information against unauthorized access, acquisition, loss, misuse, alteration, and disclosure. No website, transmission, or storage system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Get My Preparer is responsible for complying with the privacy, security, breach-notification, and information-protection requirements that apply to its own operations. Preparers are independently responsible for securing the information they receive or collect and for complying with applicable tax, privacy, professional, breach-notification, Safeguards Rule, GLBA, and data-security requirements. A Preparer's independent responsibilities do not shift or reduce obligations that apply directly to Get My Preparer.
10. Privacy Rights and Requests
Depending on residence and applicable law, a person may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information; opt out of certain sales, sharing, targeted advertising, or profiling; limit certain uses of sensitive personal information; withdraw consent; or appeal a denied privacy request. We may verify identity and authority before completing a request. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by law, subject to verification.
To submit a privacy request or appeal, use the privacy request method listed in Section 15. An account-closure request is not automatically treated as a deletion request unless the person clearly asks us to delete personal information. We may deny or limit a deletion request where an exception applies, including where information is needed for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, billing, dispute resolution, consent records, suppression records, complaint handling, or to complete a transaction or provide a service requested by the person as part of an existing relationship. When a deletion request is granted, we will delete the personal information covered by the request as required by applicable law, subject to the permitted retention of limited records described in Section 8.
11. State-Specific Notices
Comprehensive state privacy laws apply only when their statutory thresholds and other requirements are met. We will provide additional state-specific disclosures, rights, or appeal procedures when required. This policy is intended to describe our practices accurately even where a particular comprehensive state privacy law does not apply to us.
12. Children and Age Eligibility
The Platform is intended for users who are at least 18 years old and have legal capacity to submit a request or enter into an agreement. We do not knowingly permit a person under 18 to create an account or submit a request on their own behalf. A parent or legal guardian may use the Platform concerning a minor's tax needs without entering the minor's Social Security number, tax documents, or other Sensitive Tax Information into the general intake form.
13. Third-Party and Preparer Services
The Platform may link to Preparer websites, scheduling tools, payment tools, document portals, or other third-party services we do not control. Each Preparer and third party is responsible for its own privacy, security, terms, and services. Review the applicable policies before providing information through a third-party service.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The revised version will be posted with a new effective date. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice as required by law. Continued use after the effective date is subject to the updated policy, but we will obtain additional consent where legally required.
